Daniel Seung Kim,
Currently Senior Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington and a concurrent student concurrently studying medicine (M.D.) at the University of Michigan, Daniel Kim, recently obtained his Ph.D. in Genome Sciences and M.P.H. in Biostatistics at the University of Washington.
Broadly interested in adult cardiovascular disease and heritable lipid traits, such as high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and its associated proteome (i.e., paraoxonase-1), It is his belief that aspects of the HDL proteome not measured by HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) are responsible for the long-held cardioprotective association of HDL-C and heart disease. In light of recent failures of HDL-C pharmacotherapy to affect cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, research focus should shift to other, more specific, aspects of the HDL particle.
