Paul Muntner is Professor and Vice Chair for the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Additionally, he is Director of the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy and Co-Director of the Pharmacoepidemiology and Economics Research Unit. He earned a Master’s degree in biostatistics and a doctorate degree in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University. His recent work has focused on using large administrative data to study the burden of cardiovascular disease, unmet treatment needs and drug safety. Dr. Muntner currently serves as the principal investigator for an American Heart Association Strategically Focused Research Network center, the National Institutes of Health funded Jackson Heart Study Hypertension Working Group and an academic/industry collaboration with Amgen Inc. Dr. Muntner is a co-investigator on the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Myocardial Infarction study and the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA). He currently is Vice Chair of the Statistics Committee for the American Heart Association, a member of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guideline for the Management of Hypertension, an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Society of Hypertension and serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and American Journal of Cardiology.
