Evangelos Giannitsis

Professor Evangelos Giannitsis is an assistant professor of cardiology at the University of Heidelberg.

After gaining his medical degree from the University of Homberg Medical School, Prof. Giannitsis completed postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology at Lübeck University Hospital, Germany. Subsequently, he undertook a PhD in internal medicine before assuming his current position in 2002.

Prof. Giannitsis’s research interests focus on cardiac biomarkers, i.e. cardiac troponins, and their validation in the diagnosis of coronary syndromes, as well as cardiac MR imaging. He has been the Principal National Coordinator in many clinical trials in these fields including the PLATO trial, the ATLAS-TIMI 46 and ATLAS-TIMI 51 trials. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the European Society of Cardiology: He served as a member of the program committee for the ESC from 2010-2012, and he is a founder and Task Force Member of the Chest Pain Unit initiative of the German Society of Cardiology.

Prof. Giannitsis is a member of the editorial board of the European Heart Journal: Cardiovascular Pharmacology and is a Guest Editor of Diagnosis, and he has published more than 400 articles in international peer-reviewed journals as well as 20 book chapters.
