Pepe Zamorano
Jose L. Zamorano is Professor of Medicine at the University Alcala de Henares and the Chief of Cardiology at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal, both in Madrid, Spain.
Professor Zamorano obtained his medical degree from the University Complutense, Madrid, in 1987 and became a Doctor in Medicine in 1991. He received his board certification there in Cardiology in 1993, before joining the faculty there as an Associate Professor.
Professor Zamorano has a broad range of research interests, including heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular imaging modalities. Within these fields, he has published over 700 articles and 20 books, including the European Textbook of Cardiovascular Imaging. His impact factor is >1,500 and has a Hirsch Index of 121, with more than 150,000 citations.
Professor Zamorano actively participates in International Scientific Societies and has previously served as Vice President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Secretary of the ESC and President of the European Association of Echocardiography (EAE).
Over the past 20 years, Professor Zamorano has received a number of prestigious Spanish and international awards, such as the Golden Plaque of the Public Health Authorities of Madrid, the Ingel Edler Gold Medal, the silver medal of the European Society of Cardiology and a research award from the Spanish Society of Cardiology. He has served on editorial boards of several journals including the Spanish Journal of Cardiology, European Journal of Echocardiography, European Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, American Society of Echocardiography, European Heart Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology Cardiovascular Imaging and International Relations Task Force of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is currently an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging.
